Keywords analysis and distribution is a typical part of any larger project and the discovery phase, the analysis phase can throw up some interesting information. For example, using the plural of a word may yield more traffic, synomyms can also be more effective depending on the product or service you offer and we discover all this before we even write any code or in many cases before we even register a domain.
Keywords, What Are They...?
It's no secret that Google, Yahoo and all the major search engines no longer use keywords as "a ranking signal" but that doesn't necessarily mean they're redundant. We tend to use these as a focus element for an article. Moz's Rand Fishkin talks about this also in his Whietboard Friday about "Can SEOs Stop Worrying About Keywords and Just Focus on Topics?".
In much the same way we look at keywords not as a driving factoir but more as a guide, a theme or topic that the article should be about.
Another area of research for us is the distribution of keywords. Think of it a little like this: Less is more.
Gone are the days you could stuff 100 keywords into the keywords meta tag (yes, we know many "web designers" still do this). Now you have to be more focused, targeting specific prospects and detailing what it is you have to say.
This is where the keyword distribution comes into its own. We help you identify terms pertinent to your business and we use these to craft content specific to that niche term.
Whether it be a small one man operation or something larger and global the benefits a keyword analysis brings far outweigh the costs as you discover other revenue streams quickly and easily.
Once the analysis has been completed and a distribution report has been created it has to be implemented. This is done following discussions with the client. Which products or services they would prefer to promote for example, which method is best and whether to include new content, social and other mediums of marketing.
The whole process of discovery and implementation is completed in partnership with the client as they know their business and which direction they'd like to go in far better than any designer and with this comes visibility and control.
